The library’s Document Delivery - Books (DD-B) Service assists OCOM doctoral students in obtaining books held in the OCOM library while they are off campus. Questions and answers below are intended to help doctoral students better use this service.
Q. How do I know if OCOM library has the book I need when I am not on campus?
A. First search the library’s catalog at library.ocom.edu If the library has the item you are looking for, email sumall@ocom.edu or call (503) 253-3443 ext. 121 to find out if the item is available.
Q. What do I do if the library has the book I need and it is available?
A. The doctoral student may fill out an online Document Delivery - Book Request form within three days (from the date of the library’s email confirming the availability of the item) via the doctoral program’s website. Meanwhile, the library will hold the item for the interested DS. After three days, the item can be checked out by another library user.
Q. How long does it take to receive the book and how long can I keep the book?
A. It takes up to five business days from the request date to receive the book you have requested. The same circulation procedures and policies apply to the book you have received through the mail (See Borrowing library Materials)
Q. Is there any fee for this service?
A. Yes. The fee is $10 per book including search/retrieval of the item and the Priority Mail postage. The fee will be charged to the DS requestor’s account at OCOM and be collected during registration for next term.
Q. What if the library has the book but it has been checked out?
A. If the book is checked out, the library will inform the doctoral student via email of the due date of the book. The doctoral student may place a hold on the book by responding to the email.

Q. How do I know if OCOM library has the article I need while I am not on campus?
A. You may find out if the library carries that journal by one of the following ways:
1. Browse the journal holding list
2. Search the library’s catalog at library.ocom.edu.
3. Email the librarian at lchen@ocom.edu about the journal you are looking for.
Q. What do I do next if the library has the journal article I am looking for?
A. If you prefer the article delivered to you instead of obtaining it yourself while you are on campus, you may fill out an online Document Delivery—Article Request form. Be sure to include all the required information on the form so your request can be filled in a timely manner.
Q. Can the library delivery the article to me via email?
A. No, the library cannot deliver a copy of the requested article via email.
