President's Welcome

Thank you for your interest in Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. If you are searching for a college with a rich history and distinguished record of providing students an extraordinary educational experience in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) look no further. Since our inception in 1983, we have consistently been recognized as a national leader in education and advocacy in traditional Chinese medicine. Our mission is to transform healthcare by educating highly skilled and compassionate practitioners, providing exemplary patient care, and engaging in innovative research within a community of service and healing.

To this end we have dedicated ourselves to continuous quality improvement in our academic, clinical and research programs. Our exceptionally qualified faculty, many trained in both TCM and Western medicine, are committed to each student’s growth, understanding, and learning. We offer a challenging, highly respected academic program in acupuncture and Oriental medicine that leads to the degree of Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAcOM). We also offer a postgraduate doctoral program leading to the Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) degree. In July 2005, we earned the distinction of being the first acupuncture and Oriental Medicine college in the United States to graduate Doctors of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM).

Our engaging and provocative clinic experience guides and directs students in translating their TCM academic knowledge into clinical skills. The clinic experience is specifically designed to develop and sharpen skills in the formulation of diagnoses, the development of treatment plans, patient education, and provision of therapeutic treatments utilizing acupuncture, Chinese herbs, cultivation of qi and Oriental body work. Our Intern Teaching Clinic serves more than 1,500 patients per month.

Oregon College of Oriental Medicine recognizes the importance of research to enhanced credibility of acupuncture and Oriental medicine. In 1999 the college recruited an internationally renowned and respected scholar who guided the college to the distinction of being the first acupuncture college to be awarded a grant from the National Center of Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the National Institute of Health (NCCAOM/NIH). Our research program continues to flourish and is currently involved in clinical trials conducted collaboratively with Oregon Health & Science University and several CAM colleges.

If you are serious about a career in acupuncture and Oriental medicine we would be honored to help you achieve that goal. On behalf of Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, thank you for your interest in our program.

Sincerely,
Michael J. Gaeta, EdD
