Student Life

"The students, alumni, faculty and staff all become one big family. Our students are very warm, caring and passionate people and I am proud to be a part of their experience here."   Carol Acheson, Registrar since 1991

Our students cultivate a co-operative, mutually supportive learning environment. They are passionate about Chinese medicine and committed to seeing their classmates succeed.  Students form study groups, swap childcare responsibilities and share class notes. They work, study, and play together, forming relationships that sustain them during and beyond their years at Oregon College of Oriental Medicine.

Our Office of Student Affairs provides a variety of support services to current students.  We also host a variety of activities and provide resources to enrich the student experience:

New Student Orientation
New students spend two days at a retreat center in the spectacular Columbia River Gorge to meet classmates, faculty, and learn what to expect as a master’s student.

Welcome Party
A fun, fall event to welcome first year students to the family.

OCOM Lounge
This student-created Web site, www.ocomlounge.com, features a forum for classifieds and discussions, a calendar of events, course information and study guides, club and student government information, photos, videos and a repository of important documents.

OCOM Video
Entitled Ancient Medicine for Modern Healing, this video features our students, faculty, staff, and community partners expressing what they think makes OCOM special.

Herb Garden and oCOMPOST
Students tend to our on-campus garden and publish a quarterly newsletter, the oCOMPOST, with interesting facts about Chinese herbs and their applications in everyday life.

T-shirt Design Competition
Students submit t-shirt designs that are then voted on by their fellow classmates.  The first place t-shirt design is then available for purchase.

No-Talent Show
Staff, faculty, and students ham it up on stage to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Student Association
Students plan social, political, charitable, and educational events that add meaning, variety, and fun to the student experience.
