The OCOM clinical doctorate is a 1,228-hour, 24-month program offered through a series of on-campus modules.* The program is competency-based and emphasizes proficiency and performance, reflecting the most advanced levels of theory and practice in the field of acupuncture and Oriental medicine.

OCOM has defined five general competencies to be mastered by each student over the course of the program, though the details and emphases within each may vary by course, specialty discipline and stage of professional development. Graduates of the OCOM Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program will be able to:

1. Integrate advanced Oriental medical and Western biomedical concepts and clinical skills, and apply this integrated perspective to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of a range of complex, chronic conditions;

2. Demonstrate a synthetic appreciation of advanced concepts in clinical biomedicine, and communicate these concepts clearly and effectively when collaborating on patient care with other healthcare providers;

3. Effectively apply clinical specialization skills and knowledge to the domain of patient care;

4. Identify, analyze and critically evaluate AOM-relevant research information from a wide range of sources, and apply that information appropriately in clinical settings;

5. Demonstrate the potential to make significant scholarly contributions to the profession
