Please arrive 20-30 minutes before your appointment time and pick up New Patient Paperwork at the clinic front desk. Your first appointment will last 1 hour and 15 minutes. If your paperwork is not complete before your appointment time, it is possible that you will be seen that day. At your appointment, an acupuncturist or student intern will begin by talking with you about your health. They will ask you a series of questions about your medications, your habits and lifestyle, personal health history and physical symptoms. Practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine also gather information about your health by observing various physical characteristics. Your acupuncturist may examine the color, shape, and coating of your tongue; feel the speed, quality, and strength of your pulse; or palpate areas of your body where you are experiencing pain and discomfort. This information will help them determine the most appropriate treatment for you according to Chinese medical diagnosis. Once they have formulated a treatment plan for you, the acupuncturist will place extremely fine, flexible, single-use sterilized disposable needles at specific acupuncture points on your body. When the needles are inserted, you may experience a sensation of tingling or warmth. Your practitioner will determine the length and frequency of your treatments. Fewer visits may be required as your health progresses. If you are pregnant, you must obtain a primary care provider in order to begin or continue treatment. Please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne or essential oil during your treatment. Our students and staff adhere to the strictest confidentiality requirements and will not share your health or contact information. |
